Day 2 of Filming...

location: Faget Forest

We were definitely more prepared this time than on the first day. We sort of knew what to expect, and how to go about filming the scenes. Our actor was also much more used to his role, and was now more familiar with the entire process. We were lucky to catch beautiful weather which is crazy because we were about to cancel filming for that day because the forecast said that it was going to rain. Filming in the forest was definitely more fun than in the parking garage. We had a bit more freedom with the space, and it was an interesting change in scenery. We each took turns filming and directing to figure out exactly how to go about filming each scene.

At one point, we hit a sort of block, because there are a couple of scenes that we planned out to be POV shots. The issue was that we couldn't figure out how exactly to film these. At first we thought that the cameraman/woman could simply hold the camera and run, but we realized that we wanted the arms of "the protagonist" to be seen moving around while running. Then one of our team members remembered a TikTok that she saw of a man making sandwiches at subway filmed from his point of view. In the TikTok he showed how he filmed it and he wrapped a tripod around his body to do it. We took inspiration from this and wrapped a tripod around Evanna's neck.

This was also very trial and error. A lot of the shots turned out too shaky to the point where it didn't even seem like POV anymore. So I had the idea of running behind or very close next to Evanna and filming. This produced a smoother effect and wasn't quite as shaky as the tripod wrap technique, but not everyone liked it. Another issue was that with the camera placed so high up (almost eye level), we couldn't even see the arms moving while running. This is obviously because a normal human doesn't really run with their arms by their head, so we had to come up with something else. At one point Evanna also tried wrapping it around her waist to see if we could get some better results, but it was nearly impossible to keep it stable. Overall we have a pretty large variety of shots to choose from which will hopefully make it easier in editing. We were able to film the other shots pretty smoothly and we finished filming quicker than we did in the first day. Overall I feel like we definitely were able to improve with the efficiency of the entire process in the second day.
