We started editing by deciding which clips were appropriate or not to choose. We have a Google Drive folder in which all of our material is sorted by filming location, so this helped us immensely when looking through clips. We looked for clean movement and continuity in order to make the editing process easier for us.

Of perhaps ~150 total clips, we selected probably half - at most three quarters - of these to be transferred into ending. This shows us proof that when it comes to filming, it’s always better to have too much rather than too little footage - which indeed turned out to be a small predicament we had to deal with some of our footage. We put all of the clips together according to the script and shortened them in order to make them match and give the film a nice flow.

A multitude of editing techniques were used: we combined both continuity and montage editing, also included eyeline match, graphic match and match on action, a lot of jumpcuts and inserts of the characters feet in closeup.

As we gained more experience while filming, we took more and more shots from different angles in order to have more options while editing. One thing which we wish we had done differently is filming the beginning and ending of the entire segment from more angles, so we would have more material to work with. The beginning and ending shots of the sequence were the first clips filmed; we didn’t have the experience yet necessary to know what we would and wouldn’t need. As it turned out, we had to remain with these clips; refilming was not possible and we had to make the most of what we had. But with the help of editing we will manage to work things out and use the clips we had to their full potential.
